What we started with
This room was a great open canvas. Dark drapes and walls were giving the impression it was much smaller than it actually is. Once it was decluttered and re-organized a bit, we were ready to decorate! The client already had a modern black crib and white glider, which inspired the monochrome nursery palette. A large changing table / dresser was taking up an entire wall so that was moved into one of two large closets for a built-in changing area to maximize space and allow for more fun toys for baby! Dad may still be in search of a new workout room though ;)
My favorite details
This HUGE name sign over the crib was just so bold and looked amazing with the comets and planets swirling around it. I love using wall decals in nurseries so the room can evolve as baby gets bigger. Toys in the room and on the shelf were geared to bigger kids, so baby's two big brothers could find fun things to do in the room. And both brothers were included with constellation maps charting the day they were born (baby's map was created after we knew his birthday!).
My favorite detail is a very tiny one. I try to add an embroidery hoop in every nursery and this one features an "adventure awaits" one with two tiny pins. This baby's great grandfather worked on the Apollo 11 mission so this was a subtle little nod to family and some added NASA flair. And who can resist astronaut Curious George who was impossible to source but so worth the hunt!
Client's favorite thing about the room
"It’s so calming. When everyone else in the house is running around and crazy, the baby and I can go in his room, shut the door and it's just so calm and peaceful. It's my favorite room in the house!"
Behind the scenes
I had a newborn while decorating this room and I will always have such a special memory of my baby coming with me to measure, hang wall art, etc. while we got this sweet room ready for his buddy-to-be :)
