When your interior designer is also an interior and lifestyle photographer…you pretty much have no option but to get in the photos as well :). And honestly, what cuter way is there to show a finished space than to share how it’s used and loved by even the tiniest clients? Sharing a few details of this red, white, and little boy blue playroom.
Some moments are so simply beautiful that time seems to stand still. Everything else seems to get a bit muffled and so much is said in the small things. Tiny looks and handholding. Kisses and laughs. I am so thankful to have stood still for a quiet snow-covered moment with this family and witness a love that made my heart so full.
With everyone at home MUCH more these days, we are all more focused (whether we want to be or not!) on cooking at home and trying to make basic dishes (and baking) a bit more exciting. My tiny clients had thoughts of their own on what paths to wander and some artistic recommendations on shots that I was happy to oblige. I never doubt children see so much more magic than we take the time to look for. In general, I try to follow them more than they follow me and see what they see through their eyes. They were playful and silly and so relaxed and fun - the perfect high note to end the season on.
Oh how special this session was. My mother grew up with such a wonderful group of childhood friends, each more stunning and hilarious than the next. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have them love me like family and make me laugh like no other. My godmother, Eileen, used to love taking photos of me and her gorgeous little girls…the oldest of which is captured here with her beautiful family and adorable little man.
Oh how much I wanted to do this sunrise session where it felt like the earth was empty and it would be just us and the water and mountains behind…and oh how I watch too much Dateline and was certain I was going to be murdered at an early hour before my clients arrived. Ah, risks and rewards. This one worked out.
Summer 2020 you were weird, but you were also kind of wonderful. There’s something about the beach that almost of makes you forget everything else. The enormity of it. The energy it has. Something so unscripted about beach sessions. I love how kids just hit the sand and start running free. Collecting shells. Authentic wonder. Squeals at the waves getting everyone wet.
This is our last nursery and I’ve loved everything about it’s foxiness. I always mourn the taking down of nurseries for “big kid” rooms, but our little guy has figured out how to launch himself out of the crib and we are moving on to a big boy bed…so why not get a little salty?
Siblings are the first teachers in life lessons. Of sharing. And helping. And compromising. Even if you don’t think GI Joe characters belong in Barbie’s dreamhouse. Sometimes you have to let them in. You have to make room for these other tiny people who share your house and your parents and, if you’re smart, make best friends and allies out of them. These siblings have such a beautiful bond that is already filled with sacrifice and compromise and friendship and a journey that is a bit beyond the ordinary…
I absolutely love sessions that don’t feel like sessions. Where there is so much play and laugher (and always maybe a few tired tears)…and we are able to get images of who your little ones really are. Playing with his favorite truck. Getting wet in the waves. Being little. Being him.
A first birthday cake smash…I’m not sure there’s a better combo than celebrating someone you love, with people you love…surrounded by rows and rows of roses.
Tide and time may wait for no man, but if they did, you’d be the man to make them. Happy Father’s Day to a man who will never be on social media, but who can hopefully find this on the world wide web on his flip phone and know that I love him very much.
Small businesses are all challenged in this current environment and we wanted a way to use our small businesses to help others. So in that spirit, we are hosting a full-day food styling and photo session and are inviting four local restaurants (in our hometowns of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and Ridgewood, NJ) to be a part of the day. The goal is to help these restaurants invest in their brand story during a time when they are stretched thin for resources to do so.
I may have not needed her in the flower fields. Or to preview my galleries of your families. Or to proofread my words. But, perhaps, I want her to be a part of it all to see the way she sees me each time again. I am not sure how I got so lucky to have the person I admire most admire me back in everything I do.
